On Friday 8 May, Martin Wolf talked to the Society’s Sunil Krishnan about a range of issues related to the pandemic.  They discussed the global economic outlook, the handling of the crisis by governments in the UK and US, default risks in high income economies, lessons from banking on building resilience, and what society needs from economists in these exceptional times.

Martin Wolf joined the Financial Times in 1987 having previously worked for 10 years at the World Bank.  He has been associate editor since 1990 and chief economics commentator since 1996.  He has been described by Lawrence Summers as “the world’s pre-eminent financial journalist”.
