Event: 16 July 2026 6.30pm - 9.00pm

SPE Summer Drinks Reception

In partnership with King’s College London

Venue: Bush House, 30 Aldwych, London, WC2B 4BG

Only SPE members are invited to join this unique networking event on the roof terrace of Bush House, with spectacular views over the Thames and surrounding area. This flagship event is a great opportunity for new members so please do share details with your colleagues in case they are interested in joining the Society and attending the event.  If you have colleagues who are not members and would like to join the SPE, they can quickly become members via https://spe.org.uk/membership/about/ to attend the Summer Drinks and the rest of our events programme!

The evening starts at 6.30pm with drinks and canapes served from arrival.

We are delighted to say that Soumaya Keynes, Economics Columnist for the Financial Times, will join us for a short and light-hearted talk. Those that have had the fortune to have heard her speak before will know this is not to be missed.

Soumaya Keynes is an economics columnist for the Financial Times and host of the FT’s podcast “The Economics Show with Soumaya Keynes”. She’s also the author of the book “How to Win A Trade War”, which Tim Harford described as “Timely, witty and wise”, adding “you could not ask for a better guide to the new economic order.” Before joining the FT she wrote about economics for The Economist, covering the British and American economies as well as trade and globalisation, and before that she was a research economist at the Institute for Fiscal Studies.

This is a great opportunity to meet colleagues, contacts and fellow members of the Society. A number of special guests from across the UK economics profession will be in attendance, including members of King’s faculty and the SPE Council. In recent years, the SPE Summer Drinks has become the stand-out social event for the UK economics community - don’t miss out!
