Members are invited to join us this festive season for the SPE Christmas Drinks Reception and Fireside Chat with Martin Wolf, generously hosted by Norton Rose Fulbright on Monday 15 December 2025 at their London offices, 3 More London Riverside. From 6.00pm to 8.30pm (registration from 5.30pm), this exclusive evening will bring together members of the Society for an inspiring discussion and the chance to celebrate the season with colleagues and friends.

The evening will begin with Bronwyn Curtis in conversation with Martin Wolf, Chief Economics Commentator at the Financial Times. During this special fireside chat, Martin will share his insights on the future of democratic capitalism. Recognised globally as one of the most influential voices in economic journalism, Martin has enjoyed a distinguished career at the World Bank, the Trade Policy Research Centre, and the Financial Times, where he has served as Chief Economics Commentator since 1996. He is also a visiting professor at the University of Nottingham, the author of several highly acclaimed books including Why Globalization Works and The Crisis of Democratic Capitalism, and has been honoured with multiple honorary doctorates as well as a CBE for services to financial journalism.

Bronwyn is a financial markets economist with extensive leadership experience across finance, consulting and media. Her executive career includes Head of Global Research at HSBC, Managing Editor at Bloomberg LP, and senior roles at Deutsche Bank. Currently chair of Twenty Four Income Fund, she previously chaired the UK Office for Budget Responsibility’s Oversight Board and was the first woman to chair the Society of Professional Economists. She was awarded an OBE for her services to business economics.
Following the fireside chat, guests are invited to enjoy a festive drinks reception – your opportunity to connect with fellow SPE members, network with leading figures from across the UK economics profession and celebrate the end of the year in style.
Places are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Members can register via the SPE notices.
